    Hi all!
This beautiful prompt “What brings you joy in life.’ brought a smile on my face.
It reminded me of my post graduate days ,when standing on the podium for my farewell speech ,I was asked the same question. What brings joy in your life?
With a beaming smile ,I promptly replied …. We feel overwhelmed by a number of things in life ,they surprise us and come at unexpected times and we are overjoyed. As a student may be good score ,a handsome package being offered could being joy, however I firmly believe ,joy lies in small things. We keep running around to find opportunities to celebrate and be happy ,while we forget its just a state of mind.Isn’t every moment worth celebration? I further believe the joy that materialistic things provide is far far insignificant infront of joy you get by helping someone ,by bringing a smile on someones face, probably by not doing anything but by just being there for someone.
One must strive for joy that lasts and gives you an opportunity to celebrate yourself
This is what I replied in 2006.

Today when I am answering the question again in 2023,I feel joy is a state of mind. What you think ,you become. I really feel small things today bring joy to me.
One day as I was buying some stationary ,I met a school going boy ,around 7 years of age ..,was standing at the store and searching his pockets.Curiously,I asked him what is the matter ? He said he brought a 5 rupees coin along with him,to buy a drawing sheet ,but isn’t able to find it now.He was literally in tears ,so I offered him the money to buy the sheet. He brought it and asked where ,I lived. After 2 days ,the bell rang and I went to open the door and found that boy standing at the door with the coin in his hand.He insisted and returned back the money and went back.Today as I think of it ,it brings joy that ,I could help him out of that difficult situation .
Not trying to brag about myself, but everytime I think about it ,I feel happy.
2021 has been a difficult year for me ,I was Covid positive and isolated. Since ,I am an educator so like me ,number of my student and their family members were also affected during the Second wave

Our institution had started a program to reach out and help such students and their families. I got a call from one of my students mom ,stating that both the husband and wife are covid positive and the boys(they have 2 sons) are at home but we have no one to help with food and other things. Unfortunately by the time ,I received the call the delivery boys had already left to deliver supplies to the affected families.
I tried finding a local meal provider for the day for the family and sent them food and medicines. The next day onwards my institution took care of their needs.
I can’t express in words how thankful I was to God almighty to give me strength to be of help to someone.
It’s genuinely not about the money or resources you can spend but honestly being available or just being there for others gives me immense joy and happiness.

The prompt made me nostalgic and I went down the memory lane.
    Cheers to life!

  11. What brings you joy in life.

I love to run (jogging), it makes me feel myself and my body. The head becomes empty only feelings of happiness.
I also love to ski in the mountains. The snow covers the earth. Now everything is bright and glistens in the sun. Although I realize, for nature these ski lifts are not useful. I close my eyes and enjoy the power of the mountains and wish for many more years with snow, despite climate change. (Isy from Germany)

    1. Here’s what brings joy to the different sides of me:

The engineer is happy when a piece of code she writes works well without bugs, the wife, daughter, sister is happy when she spends time at home with people who love her, the chef is happy when her experimental dishes are a success, the blogger is happy when kind, random strangers tell her they liked and connected with her post, the photographer is happy when she gets a perfect click and some amazing feedback from friends and family, the foodie is happy with anything and everything that satiates her taste buds, the wanderer is happy when she travels and explores.

  34. [The words in quotes are from “I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud” by William Wordsworth. I first read this poem in college, and loved it. It’s still my favorite poem.]

    What Brings Me Joy

Fields filled with swaying grasses, splashed with wild flowers, and hugged by trees are my joy. I wandered through those kinds of fields as a child when I lived in southern Wisconsin. And now, I wander along those kinds of fields when I visit my mother in Michigan and walk her dog.

Those fields are to me what William Wordsworth’s “host of golden Daffodils” were to him.

For even when I am absent from those fields, they can “flash upon that inward eye / Which is the bliss of solitude, / And then my heart with pleasure fills, / And dances [not] with the Daffodils,” for those belong to Wordsworth. My heart dances with the swaying grasses, for those belong to me.

  41. […] Joy. A simple word, yet it carries a whole lot of weight in it for far too many people are constantly in search of joy and many fail to find it as often as they should. I think the fault lies in having great expectations and waiting for things that are exceptionally good before they can have some iota of pleasure. […]

You have to research location, save money and travel to the location, and master your dive and photography equipment. However, it is rewarding to see the fruits of my labor once I capture an image.

Currently, my favorite ambush predator is the Crocodile Snake Eel found in Indonesia.
